Ep 66: How Your Partner Can Feel Prepared, Confident and Supportive During Labor with Alice Turner

I focus a lot on helping moms prepare for pregnancy and birth, but it's just as important to make sure that whoever is supporting you during your birth is knowledgeable and ready too. There's a growing interest around helping educate the people who will be supporting the person giving birth, and we've luckily got an expert on the subject with us for today's episode.

Today I'm joined by Alice Turner, a doula, Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, and the creator of SupportingHer - a childbirth education class for whomever is going to be supporting you during labor. Alice believes that partners have a vital role to play on any successful birth team, and she's helping them feel engaged, ready, and excited for the experience.

Alice and I talk about why it's so important for your support partner to be knowledgeable and prepared going into your birth. She shares tips about what the supporting partner should and shouldn't do, along with her favorite advice for providing physical and emotional assistance both during and after birth.

We also talk about how her own birth experiences have shaped her work, as well as some of the birth stories she's experienced first hand with her clients.

In this Episode, You’ll Learn About:

  • How Alice found her way to working in the world of pregnancy and birth
  • Why it's so important for us to consider the experience of the supporting partner during labor and birth
  • How an engaged, supportive birth experience can help your partner transition into parenthood more easily and assist you with postpartum care
  • The top three things a supporting partner should and shouldn't do during labor and delivery
  • How to give physical support during labor
  • What Alice has learned from giving birth herself, as well as attending over 300 births in her career
